What: Get your costumes ready! SGA has rented out Guilt Nightclub for a private Halloween party this Thursday, October 27th at 9 PM. This is one of the most popular events of the year and you don't want to miss it, so be sure to get your tickets early!! This event is 21+ and every ticket includes entry to the party and two drink tickets. Each JD and LLM BU ID number is eligible to purchase one (1) student ticket and one (1) guest ticket. 5) IPLS 1L Summer Jobs in IP

What: IPLS welcomes the BU Law community to join us for a student panel addressing 1L summer jobs in intellectual property. The panel will include 2L and 3L students who worked in the following: general practice firm, IP boutique firm, in-house, government, and judicial internship. This event is following the 1L CDO introduction, so the student panel will describe aspects such as applying for and obtaining these jobs, the work explored in each, the skills developed in each, and how to use these jobs to explore IP opportunities post-1L summer.

6) MESALSA's Annual Eid/Diwali Dinner

What: Please join MESALSA in celebrating both the Hindu festival of lights, which signifies the victory of light over darkness, and the Islamic Eid al-Adha Festival of Sacrifice. Members of all organizations are invited to come together to share their celebrations of faith and culture with music, food, and conversation. We will be catering both Persian & Indian food for dinner, and everyone is welcome to stop by anytime from 6-8pm. 10) Walking The Line: Finding Justice Through Journalism

When: Wednesday, October 26, 2016 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM
Where: Barrister’s Hall
What: Andrew Cohen (COM ’88, LAW ’91), Commentary Editor at The Marshall Project, a national correspondent and Contributing Editor at The Atlantic, and a leading expert on criminal justice, has straddled the line between law and journalism for 25 years, trying to explain to reporters how lawyers operate and vice versa. The truth is that the most effective advocates, and the most effective journalists, are able not just to translate the language of their own crafts but the other as well so that their stories are more accurate and colorful and their cases and causes are more richly described to the rest of the world. Join Andrew and students from the School of Law and College of Communications for a fascinating discussion on his path through law and journalism! Refreshments and light food will be served. 11) Community Gathering - Discussing the Attack on Women's Voting Rights

When: Wednesday, October 26, 2016 from 4:15 PM to 5:15 PM
Where: Room 203
What: Join If/When/How in a community gathering and informal discussion regarding the recent anti-woman rhetoric surrounding voting rights. Hashtags like #repealthe19th, while often joked about, have been taken seriously by a wide variety of Americans. This event will serve as a safe space to offer support to attendees, to process recent political developments, and discuss productive ways to move forward. 12) Public Interest Conference and Networking Reception

When: Wednesday, October 26, 2016 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Where: Barrister's Hall
What: The Public Interest Conference and Networking reception will provide students an opportunity to meet and network with nonprofit organizations and government agencies in the Boston area. For the first hour, students will walk around employer booths to gather information and ask questions about each organization. During the second hour, students will get the chance to network with employers in a more relaxed setting. 1Ls, 2Ls, 3Ls welcome! Hors d'oeuvres and beverages provided. The attire for the event is business casual. LALSA is hosting the Public Interest Conference and Networking Reception alongside the BU Law Career Development Office, the Public Interest Project, the Immigration Law and Policy Society, and the Education Law Association. 13) IPLS and CESLA Present: Careers in Soft IP and Communications Law Panel

When: Wednesday, October 26, 2016 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM
Where: Room 212
What: IPLS and CESLA invite the BU Law community to this interactive panel of attorneys working in the soft IP, media, and entertainment industries. Five attorneys from major Boston law firms will share their experiences in copyright and trademark, media and communications, and entertainment law. Panelists will explain the paths they took to their respective careers and provide insights into the day-to-day details of their practices. This event will be a terrific opportunity for students, particularly 1Ls, to explore areas of law where intellectual property meets communications and entertainment. This event will also offer an early opportunity for students to network with practicing attorneys.

19) Inventions in Academia: Cross-Currents and Challenges

Where: Law School Faculty Lounge (15th Floor), 765 Commonwealth Ave
What: University laboratories constantly generate new technologies, but often require external investment and development by licensees to bring those ideas to the public in the form of innovative products or services. Students work hard to create new inventions, frequently with the goal of commercialization after graduation. Faculty seek to start and build companies to leverage their discoveries in both the academy and the marketplace. This event will gather experts to examine the technology ownership and licensing practices of universities, and discuss the many challenges faced by inventors, universities, and licensees regarding the ownership, development, and exploitation of university inventions.

What: Please join us Friday, November 4th for a Data Science Initiative (DSI) Colloquium featuring Frank Pasquale, Professor of Law at Maryland University. Hosted by the Hariri Institute for Computing, the presentation will focus on a number of proposed principles to guide future data regulation in the United States. The lecture will include a discussion on how to prevent pervasive inaccuracy or unfairness in important data and models that are being used in contexts ranging from education to finance to health care.

24) Voting Rights for Convicts and Historically Marginalized Groups in the 21st Century

What: With this year's election just days away, the discussion surrounding voter ID laws and voting rights has been thrust into the spotlight. ACS, APALSA, BLSA, and LALSA are pleased to host Kwame Akosah, an Equal Justice Works Fellow from the Brennan Center of Justice, for a talk on the current state of voter ID laws Mr. Akosah has also done extensive work related to voting rights restoration for people with criminal convictions, and will speak about his experiences working to help disenfranchised former convicts as well.

25) MACDL- Massachusetts Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers is seeking a law student representative!

What: The Massachusetts Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers is seeking a law student to serve as the law student representative on the MACDL Board of Directors. The student representative attends board meetings and other MACDL events, and participates in the Board's email listserv. Board meetings are held in the evenings on the second Tuesday of each month, in downtown Boston. This is an excellent opportunity to stay abreast of issues important to the criminal defense bar, and get to know some of the leading defense lawyers in the Commonwealth. Applicants should have a demonstrated interest in criminal defense. To apply, email a brief letter of interest outlining your background and why you would like to serve as the student representative, and your resume/CV (PDF attachments, please) to Trevor Maloney, tsjmaloney@gmail.com. The deadline is November 14.
